Advancing Postoperative Care: TRICA Study on Remote Early Warning Scoring (REWS) Using Wearable Biosensor: Healthdot

Study Overview:

The TRICA study (NCT03923127) is a prospective, single-center study that evaluates the diagnostic performance of wearable sensors in postoperative patients, conducted in collaboration with CZE, Philips, and TUe.

  • 350 bariatric and abdominal surgery patients


Primary Objective:

The aim of the study was to develop a Remote Early Warning Scoring (REWS) system based on continuous heart rate and respiratory rate measurements using the wearable biosensor, Healthdot. The diagnostic performance of REWS was compared to the traditional Modified Early Warning Score (MEWS) in detecting patient deterioration.

Key Results and Benefits:

The REWS system demonstrated diagnostic accuracy comparable to the conventional MEWS, effectively identifying postoperative patient deterioration. Healthdot enabled continuous monitoring without requiring manual spot-checks, enhancing early detection and improving patient care outcomes.
